- W2912200139 abstract "Abstract Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic metabolic diseases, which seriously threatens human health worldwide. Although synthetic drugs are widely used in the treatment of diabetes, they have some undesirable side effects. Traditional herbal medicines have an advantage in the prevention and treatment of diabetes, as they have fewer side effects. Nigella sativa L. has been regarded as a natural remedy for the treatment of various ailments including diabetes in Unani traditional medicine. In China, Nigella glandulifera Freyn has been used as an antidiabetic prescription in the traditional Uighur medicine. Many studies focused on phytochemical investigation of N. sativa, but a comprehensive review about their antihyperglycemia effect on diabetes is limited. Herein, we fully review the latest literature, experimental, and theoretical study about the chemical characterization of N. sativa, and especially summarize the recent scientific evidence for the preventive and relieving effects of N. sativa on diabetes and diabetic-related complications." @default.
