- W2912259429 abstract "We thank Dr. Samarawickrama et al for highlighting their previous work with regard to a sample of predominantly white Australian children aged ≤6 years.1Robaei D. Rose K.A. Dr. Samarawickrama and colleagues would like data on refractive error correlations with strabismus and amblyopia. This is an important issue and deserves a detailed presentation and discussion. However, refractive error is just one of many associations that deserve to be evaluated. We will be presenting refractive error and other important factors associated with strabismus and amblyopia in separate manuscripts. Refractive Error, Strabismus, and AmblyopiaOphthalmologyVol. 116Issue 2PreviewThe recent article by the Multi-ethnic Pediatric Eye Disease Study Group (MEPEDS)1 is a welcome contribution to the growing literature on strabismus and amblyopia prevalence in different populations. The authors report that the prevalence of strabismus among their total sample was 2.5% with exotropia the most frequent form in both ethnicities (60%, 54% for Hispanic/Latino and African American, respectively). After age-stratification, the proportions with strabismus increased significantly with age, but no correlations between refractive error and strabismus were reported. Full-Text PDF" @default.
