Xkr8, a membrane protein carrying 10 putative transmembrane segments, was originally identified as a scramblase that is activated by caspase-mediated cleavage during apoptosis. Here we show that mouse Xkr8 scramblase activity can be stimulated by kinase-mediated phosphorylation independent of the caspase-mediated cleavage, suggesting that Xkr8 may play a role in various biological processes to expose PtdSer." @default.
