• W2912336484 abstract "Introduction: There is increasing evidence that living environment is associated with the risk of aterial hypertension. The aim of this study was to identify the relation between residential distance from the major roads and city parks and development of arterial hypertension. Methods: In this study were used data from two general population surveys in city of Kaunas, Lithuania, conducted between 1992 and 2008. In our study at baseline investigated 741 participants age changed from 30 to 64 years (mean 46,6 years, SD = 7,6 years). Were measured health-related data at baseline included only participants with normal arterial blood pressure and those, who didn't changed residence place in 10 years period. We detected the distances from residence to the main road and the city parks. To assess the risk of development arterial hypertension, the multivariate logistic regression was used. Results: The risk of developing arterial hypertension was positively associated with age, body mass index, tracking years, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, male gender and and salted food consumption. After adjusting for these variable, an increase in risk of arterial hypertension was associated with distances to a city parks >150 m (OR= 2.19, 95% CI 1.29-3.71, compare to distance ≤150 m) and >350 m (OR= 1.32, 95% CI 0.93-1.85, compare to distance ≤350 m). After assessing effect modification based on the low distance from major road (< 200 m), we found increased risk for arterial hypertension was associated with distances to a city parks >150 m (OR= 5.61, 95% CI 2.03-15.5) and >350 m (OR= 2.04, 95% CI 1.12-3.71). Conclusions: Both residental distance from the major roads and proximity to park have beneficial effects on the development of arterial hypertension." @default.
