- W2912359748 abstract "Introduction: Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is very rarely seen in the IBD population. With the better treatments, Inflammatory Bowel Disease patients(IBD) are living healthier lives. Else where we described increasing trends of obesity in IBD population. We want to explore whether the NAFLD is increasing in IBD patients, are these patients tend to obese?. Methods: Patient demographics, diagnoses, and hospital outcomes from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample(NIS),2005- 2014 were analyzed. (NAFLD) was identified using the ICD-9 codes. Results: 5589 (1%) NAFLD patients were identified in the IBD group of 552887 patients.NAFLD patients tend to be younger than Non-NAFLD, 50.55 vs 52.13, P=0.000. Both groups have Female preponderance, but more in NAFLD group, 60.6% vs 57.4%. NAFLD has more Crohn's patients than the Non-NAFLD, 67.4% vs 63.7%.,NAFLD patients tend to be obese than the Non-NAFLD, 22.3% vs 6.6% Non-NAFLD IBD, OR 4.092, 95% CI of 3.84 to 4.37, P < 0.001.However, the majority of NAFLD IBD(77.7%) patients are not obese. Importantly, UC patients tend to obese than the Crohns, 7% vs 6.6% (OR 1.067, 95% 1.04 to 1.09, P=0.00), However NAFLD is more often seen among the Crohn's patients, 1.1% vs 0.9%(OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.11 to 1.24, P=0.01) indicating that the NAFLD may not be related to obesity alone in IBD population. Over the ten years, the prevalence of NAFLD is slowly increasing both Obese and Non-Obese IBD population but more so in the Obese IBD.On Logistic regression, UC (0.83, 95% CI 0.792 to 0.888, P < 0.001) Black race(0.592, 95% CI 0.518 to 0.678,) < 0.001), Age(0.99, 0.90 to 0.99, P < 0.001) appears to be protective against the NAFLD. Hispanic Race(1.52, 95% CI 1.34 to 1.73,P < 0.001), white Race(1.13,95% CI 1.04 to 1.22, P < 0.001) ), Obesity(3.375 95% CI 3.15 to 3.6, P < 0.001), Female Sex (1.09, 95% CI 1.03 to 1.15,P < 0.05), Crohn's disease (OR 1.24, 95% CI 1.17 ro 1.35, P < 0.001) appears to be associated with NAFLD.NAFLD is not associated with higher mortality with OR of 0.63, 95% CI of 0.485 to 0.819, P < 0.001). Conclusion: The prevalence of NAFLD is increasing in the IBD population over the years. Although almost one-fourth of the NAFLD patients are obese, its increasing prevalence can't be explained entirely by raising prevalence of the Obesity, It may be related to the altered gut microbiota.Table: Table.
