- W2912402919 abstract "Two limiting cases exist for the deformation of matter: viscous and elastic. Ideal-viscous and ideal-elastic behavior are two borderline cases since each body has both viscous and elastic properties according to a rheological axiom. Polymers thus combine viscous and elastic behavior: they are viscoelastic. Newtonian viscosities 770 are given by the ratio of shear stress. All non-Newtonian liquids are characterized by a non-linear dependence of < 721 on 7, at least at higher shear rates. The ratio < 721/7 is therefore not constant and the viscosity 77 calculated from this ratio is an apparent viscosity. In contrast to shear viscosity, elongational viscosities must always be identified by the type of deformation. The elongational viscosity of elastomers can be measured by attaching one end of an elastomer band to a pole and then winding the other end on a rotating drum." @default.
