- W2912548024 abstract "This chapter deals with coordination polymers of metal ions with 1,2,4-triazoles acting as bridging ligands. The synthesis of such polymers is straightforward, and they can readily be produced in large quantities. Notably, in the case of 4-amino-1,2,4-triazoles linear structures with low carbon content are obtained. Similarly to organic polymers, some of these polymers are processable, e.g. to lyogels, xerogels, films, and fibers (the latter blended with polyethylene). Iron(II)–triazole compounds found particular attention due to their spin-crossover behavior, manifesting in thermochromism, and concomitant reversible change from diamagnetism to paramagnetism. The spin-crossover temperature in 4-alkyl-1,2,4-triazoles in solution critically depends on the water content; hence such polymers act as humidity sensors. This is also the case for polymers with cobalt(II); however, in this case the effect originates in a reversible transition from a dehydrated tetrahedral to a hydrated octahedral coordination geometry. These systems also show thermochromism. Thus, coordination polymers with iron(II) or cobalt(II) and triazoles can exhibit materials properties or a combination of materials properties that are hardly achieved with organic polymers." @default.
