Esai pertama membahas tentang guncangan pendapatan dan pengambilan keputusansekolah melalui metode conditional fixed effect. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendapatan permanen memiliki pengaruh besar dibandingkan transitoris terhadap proses pengambilan keputusan sekolah rumahtangga yang terkait dengan tingkat putus sekolah, masuk sekolah dan transisi sekolah. Anak perempuan cenderung memiliki kemungkinan putus sekolah lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan laki-laki, khususnya pada jenjang pendidikan dasar. Sementara itu, jumlah saudara kandung yang berusia muda memiliki tingkat putus sekolah lebih tinggi dibandingkan saudaranya lebih tua pada jenjangpendidikan menengah. Esai kedua menyelidiki pengaruh berbagai guncangan idiosinkratik terhadappekerja anak, jam kerja dan partisipasi sekolah dengan metode random effect probit.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pekerja anak muncul karena adanya keterbatasan kemampuan rumahtangga untuk melindungi dari berbagai guncangan idiosinkratik danakses terhadap institusi formal dan informal. Dengan demikian, orang tua akan melibatkan anak untuk bekerja sebagai penyangga untuk meredam berbagai guncangan tersebut. Anak perempuan lebih rentan terkena guncangan idiosinkratik, terutama yangdisebabkan oleh guncangan gagal panen dan menurunnya pendapatan rumahtangga akibat harga dan kuantitas. Sementara itu, aset rumahtangga berperan penting untuk mengurangi pekerja anak dan meningkatkan partisipasi sekolah, namun tidakberpengaruh terhadap jam kerja anak selama terjadi guncangan idiosinkratik. Esai ketiga melihat peran program jaring pengaman sosial, khususnya pemberianbeasiswa terhadap tingkat putus sekolah pada jenjang pendidikan dasar di Indonesia dengan analisis intention to treat . Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa program beasiswa JPS yang diterima oleh anak laki laki dan perempuan per 100 anak terbukti efektif mengurangi tingkat putus sekolah pada jenjang pendidikan dasar. Sementara itu, program beasiswa JPS yang diterima oleh anak laki laki lebih lebih berpengaruh dibandingkan perempuan dalam mengurangi tingkat putus sekolah. Anak laki laki dan perempuan yang menerima beasiswa JPS dan berada di wilayah Jawa dan Bali berperandalam mengurangi tingkat putus sekolah dibandingkan luar Jawa dan Bali. Selain itu, anak lakilaki yang menerima beasiswa JPS lebih efektif mengurangi tingkat putus sekolah di wilayah Jawa dan Bali. This dissertation consists of three essays related to income shocks and human capital investments in Indonesia and investigates the following subjects of household educational decision-making, child labor, and social safety nets scholarship program. The first essay discusses income shocks and school decision with conditional fixed effect. The show results that permanent income has more influence than transitoryincome one the decision-making process related to school dropout rates, enrolment and school transition. Meanwhile, girls tend to have higher possibility of dropping out of school than boys, especially at the basic education level. In addition, the number of younger siblings who live in a household has a higher dropout rate than its older sibling in secondary education. The second essay investigates the influence of idiosyncratic shocks against child labor, working hours and school participation through random effect probit. The results show that it generally occurs because households are not sheltered from the idiosyncratic shocks that would cause a child to work as a buffer to dampen the shocks.Girls are more vulnerable and unprotected in the event of idiosyncratic shocks, especially those shocks caused by crop loss and the decline in household income due toprice and quantity. Additionally, household assets play an important role in reducing the number of child labor and increase school participation but do not affect the working hours of children during a variety of idiosyncratic shocks. The third essay sees the role of the social safety net , in particular the provision of scholarships to the school dropout rates in primary education in Indonesia with the intention to treat analysis. The results show that the program ofscholarships received by the number of boys and girls per 100 children effectively reduce dropout rates in primary education. The program of scholarships received by boys than girls has an important role in reducing dropout rates. Meanwhile, the numberof boys and girls who were JPS scholarships recipient in Java and Bali shows negative effect on the dropout rate compared to outside Java and Bali. In addition, the number of boys who receive JPS scholarships more effectively in reducing the dropout rates inJava and Bali than outside Java" @default.
