- W2912595206 abstract "The four most important crops in South America are soybean, maize, sugarcane and wheat according to FAOSTAT. Two countries namely, Brazil and Argentina with large areas of arable land are mentioned in this chapter. Most Argentinian crops are grown in the central and north-eastern regions under subtropical conditions. Argentinian soybeans are usually grown between October and May. The weed spectra of soybean in Argentina and Brazil differ to quite an extent. One reason for this difference is based on climatic factors: the major Brazilian soybean acreage is much closer to the equator. Brazil produced sugar cane on 9.7 million hectares in 2012, according to FAOSTAT. Major problem weeds in Brazilian sugar cane are monocots: Brachiaria, Cyperus, Digitaria and Panicum species. Wheat is a common crop of the Argentinian Pampas. The Argentinian wheat acreage of 3.0 million hectares is bigger than the Brazilian acreage." @default.
