- W2912651642 abstract "Systemic therapy lacks a proper theory of emotion. Like most systemic thinkers, Maturana also emphasizes the positive functions of emotion. Little room is left for what we may define as unpleasant emotions, such as anxiety, anguish, anger, envy, ingratitude, boredom, indifference, disillusion, and disgust. Among the “unpleasant” emotions that we might frequently find in therapy, anger and boredom are probably the most intense and difficult to deal with. Before speaking of anger or boredom specifically, we would like to make clear some of our general ideas about emotions within a systemic framework. Any system, in our opinion, is an emotional system. Anger may have an important protective systemic effect: its presence makes it difficult to perceive other emotions, especially if these are characterized with a sense of frailty and vulnerability. One fundamental prerequisite when working in an emotional system governed by anger is to decrease the anger." @default.
