Recently, the separation method of field-flow fractionation (FFF) comes more into the focus of size determination and separation of polymer mixtures consisting of different components, for example, aggregates, gels, or defined assemblies. This chapter first discusses the molecular structure and molar mass determination of polymers and biohybrids. It focuses on experimental methods and theories that are commonly used to analyze the hydrogel networks, and reviews surface characterization and their importance for polymer film in contact with the biosystems and hydrogels. The chapter also focuses on biophysical characterization of material surfaces, especially on quantifying their interaction with proteins and cells, and on biological evaluation of biomaterials and medical devices by in vitro tests as a first step towards ensuring their biocompatibility." @default.
