• W2912732975 abstract "We study the importance of CFOs by investigating their roles in information transmission between their firms and the financial industry. We find that firms with CFOs who are socially connected with bankers tend to hold less cash. We show that this relation is due to less information asymmetry between these firms and their banks, not sweetheart deals to these connected firms. Our findings indicate that CFO outside social networks provide a conduit for transmitting firm private information to outside investors and creditors. More importantly, we show that, among firm executives and directors, CFO outside social networks are the most important in building such an information channel to reduce information asymmetry." @default.
