- W2912803525 abstract "This chapter explores the linguistic landscape of a public university space in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Prior to the commemoration of El Dia de la Memoria por la Verdad y La Justicia (The Day of Truth and Remembrance), a federal holiday to mark the beginning of the military coup in 1976, the university was filled with linguistic landscape items or signs containing images and texts that raised contemporary issues. Using Paulo Freire’s notion of conscientizacao (or critical consciousness), where students attempted to transform the societal system, we examined three signs. Overall, we evinced how meanings of the past interacted with social justice concerns of the present, through publicly displayed images and texts at the university." @default.
