- W2913332002 abstract "Introduction: Metabolomic studies have been applied to disease biomarkers selection and an effective tool for pinpointing endpoint metabolic effects of external stimuli. With the Metabolomic technique, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), human serum metabolites can be detected and identified. The purpose of this study was to investigate the serum metabolic profile in Liver Diseases to detect disease biomarkers. Methods: A total of 25 Liver Disease patients with HAV, HBV, HCV and HEV infection and 20 healthy controls participated in this study. Serum metabolome was detected through chemical derivatization followed by GC/MS. The metabolomic data were analyzed by identification of the interested peaks supported by NIST v2.0g mass spectra library. Results: Out of the 20 metabolites detected in serum, we selected metabolites, including acetic acid, sorbitol, D-lactic acid, adipic acid, hexadecanoic acid, Glutamine, butanoic acid, phosphoric acid, D-glucitol, glucose, Stearic acid and Cholesterol. Specific changes in the metabolic composition of serum samples from patients including amino acids (AAs) and glucose were shown in GC-MS total ion current (TIC) chromatograms. The distinctive biochemical difference between the healthy subjects and liver disease patients was displayed by the pattern recognition methods. We also found that the liver disease patients with different degree of severity could be clearly classified by the corresponding metabonomic data. Conclusion: This technique can be used to select biomarkers for the characterization of metabolic perturbation and promises to provide an integrative criterion to evaluate the severity and the prognosis of liver diseases." @default.
