(The total consumer dependence of the postmodern society forms both new approaches to knowledge and the production of a completely new type of knower. The latter is connected with the transformations in the knowledge itself. Postmodernists claim that now knowledge is a post industrial force of production. The relationship of the suppliers and users of knowledge, the knowledge they supply and use is now tending to assume the form already taken by the relationship of commodity producers and consumers to the commodity they produce and consume. If F. Bacon wrote in the 17th century that knowledge itself is power, in the 20th century M. Foucalt tackles power from the angle of knowledge as system of thoughts that control the society being socially legitimated. There is no history, – declares M. Foucalt, followed by J.-F. Liotard who announced that «history» is a grand narrative of the Western traditional philosophy and culture. This is the real historic change which is the cornerstone of postmodernity. Moreover this shift has given a new shape to the relationship between the social activity of the scientists and the social reality in which this activity takes place. Gender studies, postmodern feminism claim that women have been expelled from the history that all the cultural representatives of women being «exterior» images, are, in fact, «male histories», men׳s narratives. Gender researchers are sure that modern science cannot be legitimate because of the question: who and what makes it legitimate? Any rational attempt to transform the world without the adequate representation of women is only one more false interpretation. In the scientific activities, as elsewhere, of paramount importance is ideology: reflections, concepts and ideas being beyond ideology is Utopia. Knowledge is claimed to be always «involved» in all social transformations. Hence the significance of the role of scientists, both men and women, in the postmodern society, the scientists, whose choice is reason, who are trying to awake from the «Sleep of Reason» without that «pride» of nationalism that caused great calamities in the history of mankind.)" @default.
