- W2913921444 abstract "This section discusses antiparasitic agents for infectious diseases. There are a number of antiparasitic agents listed in this section as chapters. These include albendazole, atovaquone, fenbendazole, fipronil and imidacloprid. This chapter presents details such as the US generic (Brand) name, availability, use, contraindications/warnings, dosage, dose adjustments, administration, storage, adverse reaction, drug interactions, monitoring, overdose, mechanism, pregnancy risk factor and lactation of each antiparasitic agents. Albendazole is typically used for the treatment of tissue and CNS infections due to larval forms of cestodes (Echinococcus spp.), and Ascaris spp. in large animals. Albendazole should be avoided in severe hepatic impairment. Atovaquone is an antiprotozoal, hydroxynaphthoquinone derivative that selectively inhibits mitochondrial electron transport which results in inhibition of pyrimidine synthesis. Fenbendazole is used commonly in cats and dogs for a variety of intestinal parasite infections. It is labeled for use in small animals for roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and tapeworms." @default.
