- W2914279344 abstract "Pericardial diseases are a consequence of numerous primary and secondary conditions and still contribute to significant morbidity and mortality in developed and developing countries. Improvements in MRI technology have changed the perspective of evaluation from a morphologic static pericardium toward a dynamic morphological and functional approach. Excellent overall sensitivity (88%), specificity (100%), and accuracy (93%) are attributed to cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging of the pericardium. In addition, the ability to differentiate fluid from pericardial layers and to report an inflammatory process of the pericardium highlights the advantages of CMR compared with other imaging modalities. In the acute setting, CMR provides clues of different etiological factors, as well as inflammation presence and extent. In the chronic scenario, CMR provides accurate diagnosis and distinction between constrictive and restrictive physiologic patterns. Currently, CMR plays an important role in multimodality imaging techniques providing reliable information to improve clinical management of patients suffering from pericardial affections." @default.
