- W2914993163 abstract "Without observers possessing the faculty of sight, there would be no colour. Hence it is appropriate that this chapter starts by considering the nature of the colour vision provided by the human eye and brain. Before doing this, however, a brief description is given about the way in which it is necessary to characterise the nature of the light which stimulates the visual system. Behavioural studies have shown the presence of well-developed colour vision in various non-human species; in many cases, physiological experiments on these species have revealed signals of three general types. The chapter considers some of the perceptual attributes of colour, in the context of the visual signals. There are three basic attributes: brightness, hue and colourfulness. The chapter explains the concepts of colour constancy, relative perceptual attributes of colours, defective colour vision, and colour pseudo-stereopsis. Controlled Vocabulary Terms colour vision; stereo image processing; visual perception" @default.
