- W2915548185 abstract "The article analyzes the research results of compound bows from the objects complex of armament of long-range combat, discovered in the course of excavations of the Ulug-Choltukh burial ground, located in the valley of the Edigan River in the Altai Mountains, during the field season of 2008. Consideration is given to the basic results of previous research of various objects of hand-held projectile armament from the Xiongnu and Xianbei culture sites, that were excavated in the territory of the Altai Mountains. Analysis is given to the finds of end median, lateral and frontal fingerboards of compound bows of different shapes, discovered in the course of excavations of the Ulug-Choltukh site in 2008. Formal and typological analysis in the composition of studied collection of archaeological findings allows distinguishing the bows of different types with varying amounts of horn fingerboards. Among them were the compound bows of a definite type, that are characterized by two pairs of end lateral fingerboards, one pair of median lateral and one median frontal fingerboard. Another type of bow includes one pair of end lateral fingerboards, one pair of median lateral fingerboards and one median frontal fingerboard. Analogical bows were used by ancient nomads residing in the territory of the middle Katun River in the Altai Mountains during the 2nd quarter of the 1st millennium A.D." @default.
