- W2915690974 abstract "Abstract Water is the most common substance on Earth, having a central role in the ecosystem support and also an essential constituent for life, participating in the structural organization of biological systems and their metabolic activity. Meteoric, surface and ground waters are used by human in different purposes. Meteoric waters do not usually meet the hygiene standards, required for human consumption, surface waters can become potable after pretreatment and disinfection, while the underground water, especially from high depth, which are found between two impermeable layers, is microbiologically unpolluted and can be captured and used as drinking water. Over the last decade, the consumption of bottled water had increased worldwide. People prefer to consume bottled water considering it being pure and clean, safer, and of superior quality than the tap water. Bottled water is also increasingly accepted as an alternative to soft drinks and alcohol, so an explosion of bottled water sales was registered in the last years worldwide. Bottled water intended for human consumption has to meet the quality required for the category of drinking water from underground sources. In this chapter, we present the physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters and methods used for the assessment of bottled water quality." @default.
