- W2918182716 abstract "Representative membrane functions involved with the membrane proteins are transportation of molecules and ions, signal transduction, cell adhesion, and morphological change. This chapter describes synthetic and semi-biological approaches as the molecular technology for membrane functionalization. The synthetic approach is based on a bottom-up construction of transmembrane molecules demonstrating the formation of supramolecular ion channels. Membrane deformation such as budding is an important biological process for endocytosis, vesicle trafficking, cell division, etc. The chapter also describes light-triggered membrane budding by a synthetic molecule. It explores a mechanical approach to the measurement of the structure of the membrane proteins using an atomic force microscope (AFM). The transmembrane structure of prestin was investigated by stretching prestin molecule out from the isolated inside-out plasma membrane using an AFM. The chapter deals with the development of a nanobiodevice using a membrane protein expressing in the inner ear." @default.
