- W2919085727 abstract "This study aims to examine the portrayal of ecological imperialism in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel The Lost World. In this study, the writer attempts to analyse how it is depicted in the novel through scientific research, ecotourism, and journalism as part of British Imperialism. In order to analyse the novel, the writer takes three steps. First, the writer examines the life background of four European characters consisting of one Irishman and three Englishmen who visit Amazonian jungle in Brazil in search of evidences on Jurassic animals’ existence as well as their positions to each other. Second, the writer examines the relation between the Europeans and the native people of the Amazonian jungle. And third, the writer examines the portrayal of ecological imperialism by focusing on scientific research, ecotourism, and journalism carried out by the Europeans. The method used in this study is qualitative research whereas postcolonial ecocriticism is used as the theory. The result of this study shows that from ecological imperialism carried out by the Europeans through scientific research, ecotourism, and journalism the Europeans get power which also means that they give power to England. Additionally, through ecological imperialism the Irishman shows that although Ireland is colonised by England, they are still superior to non-European countries." @default.
