- W2927285603 abstract "Untraced space debris are the principal threat to the functioningof operational satellites whose services have becomea fundamental part of our daily life. Small debrisbetween 1 and 10 cm are currently too small to be catalogedand are only detectable for a limited amount oftime when surveying the sky. The very-short arc natureof the observations makes it very difficult to perform preciseorbit determination with only one passage of the objectover the observing station. For this reason the problemof data association becomes relevant: one has to findmore observations of the same resident space object toprecisely determine its orbit. This paper focuses on multitargettracking, which is part of the data association problemand deals with the challenge of jointly estimating thenumber of observed targets and their states from sensordata. We propose a new method that builds on the admissibleregion approach and exploits differential algebrato efficiently estimate uncertainty ranges to discriminatebetween correlated and uncorrelated observations. Themulti-target tracking problem is formulated with two differentmathematical conditions: as initial-value problemand as boundary-value problem. The first one allows usto define the constraints as a six-dimensional region at asingle epoch for each observation, while the second one, instead, allows us to consider the two-by-two comparisonas a Lamberts problem thus constraining the positionvectors at the two epochs. The efficiency and success rateof the two formulations is then evaluated." @default.
