- W2927694255 abstract "The Philippines is a culturally diverse country having more than a hundred ethno-linguistic groups. This chapter discusses the various programs for the conservation of intangible cultural heritage supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and looks at the rationale and value behind such support. It investigates how the NCCA evaluates its intangible cultural heritage conservation efforts through the Hudhud Schools of Living Traditions (HSLT) of the Ifugao indigenous community. The project of safeguarding and transmitting the Hudhud chant of the Ifugao has several main components and was done over a span of three years. The proclamation of the Hudhud as a ‘Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage for Humanity’ necessitated the NCCA to form a permanent body to organize and execute an action plan for the Hudhud conservation. The HSLT is one of many ways to conserve intangible cultural heritage. The problem with cultural governance is that cultural policy is a closed conversation among experts." @default.
