- W293095979 abstract "his chapter presents an outline of the present thesis. First, we give a brief overview of the genetic consequences of habitat degradation and restoration, focussing on eutrophication of shallow lakes. We pay special attention to the impact of multiple antagonists on zooplankton populations in shallow lakes. Furthermore, we discuss the relative importance of natural selection and neutral events as driving forces of evolutionary processes. Since the study of evolutionary dynamics in natural populations is difficult because of the time aspect involved, we discuss here the potential of layered dormant egg banks as historical archives of lake inhabitants and their environment. At the end of this chapter, we provide some historical and ecological background information on the study system, and present the model organism Daphnia magna. To conclude, we present the objectives and outline of this thesis. T" @default.
