- W2938129400 abstract "Fluidized bed devices are commonly used in pharmaceutical manufacturing operations to produce drug products. This chapter discusses fluid bed coating operations used to produce coated beads, specifically drug-layered beads. It describes the fluid bed coating process using devices with a Wurster insert, which helps direct the fluidization flow patterns within the device. The chapter focuses on Wurster coating process. It presents the use of multiscale computational tools to help understand and design the fluid bed coating operation. A multiscale approach is developed to understand the fluid bed coating process by setting up and executing simulations where computational fluid dynamics is coupled with discrete element method to model the flow of beads inside the coater. The chapter presents a compartment model using Monte Carlo approach and a Markov chain Monte Carlo approach. It also presents a holistic overview of the population balance models approach to predict coating uniformity." @default.
