The primary objective of the research pre­sented in this study was to compare the learning outcomes resulting from the use of two active learning techniques: web-based classroom response system (CRS) and class discus­sion. In this study, a mixed method research was used. For the purpose of quantitative research, a pre-test/post-test method was used to assess learning outcomes and anonymous survey to evaluate students' attitudes toward their active engagement. To obtain the qualitative data, five open-ended questions, for each group (experimental and control group) were included in the survey. The conclusions indicate that the use of web-based CRS and class discussion respectively increase learning outcomes, facilitate learning pro­gramming and positively affect students attitude toward programming course. However, the group which used web-based CRS had better learning outcomes than the group which had a class discussion, and also the students' attitude toward web-based CRS is more affirmative compared to class discussion." @default.
