- W2944477581 abstract "The existence of a child in a family is often a pleasant event. But a child with physical or mental disabilities can put a heavy burden on parents. The purpose of this study is a phenomenological investigation of the experiences of Iranian mothers of children suffering from cerebral palsy (CP). A qualitative study is done using hermeneutic phenomenology as designed by Van Manen. The study participants are Iranian mothers living in Yazd who have a child with CP. The themes identified in interviews with eight participants are as follows: feelings (neutral, positive, and negative) and self-expectation (efforts to take a better care of ones’ children), levels of relations (self-isolation and relations with counterparts), abd levels of supports (being abandoned by one’s husbands’ family and others, lack of support from the child’s father, others’ interference in taking care of the child, being looked down, and lack of emotional and financial supports from husband’s family). At present, mothers are uncertain about the future. Facilities for rehabilitation and treatment (insufficient facilities and inadequate training of the family) and level of satisfaction with caring systems (dissatisfaction with government agencies and satisfaction with private treatment centers) were considered as lived space. These lived experiences have led to individualization of care." @default.
