• W2945458403 abstract "Bioactivity enhancement of the orthopedic implants is essentially developed for early and long-term stability of the implant in contact interfaces with the bone tissue. The bioactive coating would be the primary method that has been initiated by coating of the synthesized hydroxyapatite (HA) on the surface of the implant. The HA coating has been processed via various methods and process conditions to enhance its adhesion strength, homogeneity, crystallization, Ca-P chemical composition, bioactivity performance, etc. Likewise, the nano and microstructuring of the HA coated has been scrutinized in enhancement of osseointegration. Furthermore, effective or optimum coating thickness, coating process parameters, postcoating treatments, and combined HA with osseoinductive biological factors (e.g., osteoblastic or osteogenic growth factors, and antibacterial agents) have been investigated to enhance the productivity of this method for clinical use. Other than HA (or other calcium phosphate compositions), various bioactive materials such as bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), collagen, or chitosan, have been addressed to be highly promising as the coating layer on orthopedic implants. Furthermore, the advantages of nano-monolayering and bilayering of the bioactive materials for different types of the orthopedic implant were reported with outstanding results in recent investigations. In this chapter, the advantages of bioactive coating are expressed and the current challenges and development aspects in promotion of its effectiveness in long-term implantation are discussed." @default.
