- W2947834302 abstract "This chapter focuses on current and future methods of nucleic acid testing to diagnose tuberculosis (TB) early at the primary point-of-care, but is translatable to the detection of any microbial agent, the genome of which has been sequenced. Unlike conventional TB diagnostic methods used at the healthcare periphery, nucleic acid detection methods have advantages such as greater specificity and sensitivity, as well as a short time to obtain results. Sample preparation is one of the more challenging aspects of TB diagnosis at the point-of-care. The chapter examines some suitable DNA readouts for point-of-care TB diagnostic tests. It covers recent nanotechnologies that have been applied to TB, but they are translatable to other infectious agents whose genome has been sequenced. Leveraging innovative nanotechnologies can bypass restrictions on tests due to lack of technology or equipment in resource-poor areas." @default.
