In this case, development on efficient photocatalyst is acquired by many scientists. Herein, we report the synthesis of a novel Zn0.5Cd0.5S/5% nickel acetate hydroxide composite though simple solvothermal method. The composite catalyst was characterized by the structure and morphology analyses. Throught PEC test, it was found that the transient photocurrent intensity of the composite catalyst is about 13 times that of pure Zn0.5Cd0.5S. Also, water splitting performance for hydrogen (H2) production over Zn0.5Cd0.5S/5% nickel acetate hydroxide can reach 4500 μmol/h/0.1 g, approximately 9 times higher than that of the pure Zn0.5Cd0.5S. Moreover, the composite catalyst presents an impressive reproducibility in the recycling trials. It is believed that the improved catalytic activity results from the unique structure of the composite catalyst that is able to provide more reactive sites and simultaneously inhibit the recombination of photogenerated carriers.
