- W2950047654 abstract "Abstract In situ gels are basically polymeric colloidal systems, which are of solution type (i.e., sol form) before the administrations in/onto the body; once administered, these undergo the formation of gel in situ. The development of these in situ gelling systems depends on some important issues such as occurrence of ions, alteration of pH, temperature modulation, solvent exchanging, UV irradiation, etc. In recent years, various biodegradable and hydrophilic polysaccharides such as alginic acid, chitosan, gellan gum, pectin, xyloglucan, carageenan, HPMC, etc. have been employed to formulate various more acceptable and excellent in situ topical gels to deliver drugs effectively in controlled ways over a prolonged period. Mostly, these in situ polysaccharide-based topical gels are administered by transdermal, ocular, rectal, vaginal, etc., routes. The current chapter presents a comprehensive discussion on the in situ polysaccharide-based gels for drug delivery applications through various topical drug administration routes." @default.
