- W2951514095 abstract "Significance Collagen is a major component of the extracellular matrix, and its secretion requires cytoplasmic proteins that assemble on the surface of the endoplasmic reticulum to bud ∼100-nm-diameter cargo transport vesicles (COPII). Bulky collagens, such as the 300-nm procollagen I (PC1), are too big to fit into normal COPII vesicles. Recently, large COPII-coated vesicles were found to act as PC1 carriers, but how these large COPII carriers are generated remains unclear. Here, we show copackaging of PC1 along with its cargo receptor TANGO1, a coreceptor protein, cTAGE5, and the COPII initiating factor SEC12. Because SEC12 is excluded from small COPII vesicles, we propose that TANGO1 targets SEC12 to PC1-containing endoplasmic reticulum and drives the formation of large COPII-coated vesicles." @default.
