- W295167914 abstract "This study addressed the effects of job attributes and student characteristics on the job attraction of graduate professional students. A job attraction model (Rynes & Barber, 1990) and a postsecondary professional education model (Stark. Lowther, Hagerty. & Orczyk. 1968) provided the theoretical framework for the investigation. The participants (N 401) were dental students who evaluated content-validated descriptions of three professional job options (sole ownership, group ownership, employee practice). A stepwise multiple-regression analysis revealed that four predictors explained 48.1% of the variance in student job attraction. The significant predictors (and variance explained) were: job attributes (43.9%), job attributes-by-gender interactions (3.2%). and year of graduate study (1.0%). Both males and females rated the sole ownership job most favorably, but females rated group ownership and employee jobs more favorably than did males. All job ratings attenuated as students progressed from the 1st to the 4th year of graduate study. Results suggest both theoretical models used are viable frameworks for researching job attraction across such professional disciplines as education, business, law, medicine, social work, engineering, dentistry, and architecture. Findings highlight the utility of similar research for evaluating professional program curricula and assessing the adequacy of the supply of skilled graduates rendered by university professional programs." @default.
