- W2951973988 abstract "Numerous post-stroke rehabilitative approaches developed to date have only limited effectiveness in improving upper extremity function in the post-acute stage of stroke. This limited effectiveness can be partly attributed to the complex interaction between neuronal injury and the mechanisms of motor recovery. This study examined the extent to which motor functions and neurophysiological measures fluctuate over the course of nine sessions of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in seven chronic stroke patients. Improvement in motor function occurred early during intervention. This was accompanied by unexpected neurophysiological changes according to the predicted motor function recovery theories. The findings of this study improved the understanding of the relationship between changes in motor function and in neurophysiology during post-stroke recovery.%%%%Les approches therapeutiques developpees a ce jour visant a ameliorer la fonction des membres superieurs suite a un accident vasculaire cerebral (AVC) ont une efficacite limitee. La therapie de readaptation post-AVC pose un important defi a cause de l’interaction complexe qui existe entre l’atteinte neuronale et les mecanismes de recuperation impliques. La presente etude avait pour but d’examiner la recuperation de la fonction motrice suite a neuf sessions de stimulation magnetique repetitive transcrânienne chez sept patients dans la phase chronique post-AVC. L’amelioration des fonctions motrices etait survenue tot durant l’intervention. Ceci etait accompagne de changements neurophysiologiques inattendus selon les theories de recuperations de la fonction motrice. Les resultats de ce projet permettront de mieux comprendre la relation entre les changements fonctionnels moteurs et les changements neurophysiologiques durant la phase de recuperation apres un AVC." @default.
