- W2953103630 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the stripes and resonance peaks of single- and multi-layered cuprates and related nickelates. Superconductors with surprisingly high superconducting transition temperatures Tc, as function of doping, strongly stimulated the interest in the interplay between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity. Stripes are associated with the highly organized form of electron matter. When a hole moves through a dynamical spin system, it causes severe spin frustrations that in turn frustrate the free motion of the hole. A single hole can only propagate as a quasiparticle because of the presence of quantum spin fluctuations repairing the damage in the spin background. However, when the density of holes is finite, they can help each other repairing the spin damage by concerting their motions. This gives rise to the complex ordering phenomena called “stripes.” The formation of stripes may be described with the help of the t–J model. When a hole is injected in a 2D S = 1/2 antiferromagnet, it leaves behind a string of flipped spins that delocalizes the “magnetic string.” These violate the antiparallel registry of the spins, thereby frustrating the delocalization of the hole. At finite hole densities, the holes can coordinate their motions in such a way that they help each other to avoid the frustrating magnetic strings. An individual hole may now move sideways without causing a misoriented spin and by repeating these hops kinks propagate along the stripe that cause the stripe as a whole to move freely over the plane, unimpeded by the spin system." @default.
