En This essay discusses the relationship between subjectivity and culture in Polanyian social theory. Polanyi combines a broad socialization of knowledge with social and individual progress; he also considers culture as a determining variable of historical and antropological change. The critique of utilitarianism developed by Polanyi is also linked to culture as a basic dimension of social life since the determinism of knowledge is considered the basis of the unwitting consensus that liberalism enjoys in market societies. This paper shows how the polanyian critique of the market judges the cultural conflict as a matrix of subjectivity or an important source of hypostatizations." @default.
