- W2955984559 abstract "Star rated hotels are great contributors of Gross Domestic Product in Kenya. It recordsapproximately KES257.4bn (3.7% of GDP) in the year 2017. This is forecast to rise by 6.0% toKES272.8bn in the year 2018. However, the star rated hotels in Kenya have not emerged verystrong and its performance is behind as compared to its economic peers that includes SouthAfrica, Morrocco, Nigeria and Mauritius. The poor performance of the Star rated hotels hasconsistently missed the government revenue target. The purpose of the study was to determinethe influence of transformational Leadership style on Operational Performance of star ratedhotels in Nairobi. The study objectives were to determine the influence of leader competence,effect of communication, influence of motivation and effect of individualized consideration onoperational performance of star rated hotels in Nairobi. The study was informed by theory ofTransformational Leadership, Taylor’s Motivational Theory, Fredrick Herzberg’s Two FactorTheory, Resource based view (RBV) and Communication accommodation theory. This was doneby expounding on how the theories relate to transformational leadership styles and operationalperformance. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The study population target was10,420 employees in star rated hotels in Nairobi County. The sample size was 385 respondents.The study used questionnaires to obtain data. Data was presented using tables, charts and figures.Regression results showed that leader competence and operational performance are positivelyand significant related (r=0.111, p=0.030). The findings further revealed that communication andoperational performance are positively and significantly related (r=0.131, p=0.007). It wasfurther established that motivation and operational performance were positively and significantlyrelated (r=0.315, p=0.000). Similarly, results showed that individualized consideration andoperational performance were positively and significantly related (r=0.138, p=0.005). Based onthe findings above the study concluded that leader competence, communication, motivation,individualized consideration significantly influence the operational performance of star ratedhotels. The research project will provide the government with eye opening and strategystrengthening ideologies that would enable it provide effective legislative and policy-makingstructures that would support and enable hospitality service providing firms to be moreproductive. The students and academic scholars will use this study as a basis for debates on thetransformational leadership style and operational performance of star rated hotels in Kenya" @default.
