- W2956069190 abstract "L2L: Library Staff Learning to Support Learners Learning is a groundbreaking initiative that transformed the professional lives of librarians and library assistants in Irish academic libraries and gave fresh impetus, new meaning and direction to their educational work and goals. Three libraries collaborated over two years in a nationally-funded project to test and evaluate an innovative Professional Development Framework for all staff who teach or facilitate learning in higher education. The project was conceived against a backdrop of challenge and change for library instruction, which has expanded and diversified over time, using new modes of delivery, introducing novel content, and engaging many more library staff with the student learning experience; yet the teaching role of librarians is continually being questioned and contested by both academics and librarians. The present paper prefaces a set of reflective case studies published as an open access book that forms a key contribution of this project by sharing individual and collective experiences, insights, and benefits of using the PD Framework to understand and advance teaching and learning in libraries. This foreword identifies the distinctive qualities of the Framework, showing how its inclusive and holistic approach bring to the fore issues of longstanding concern for academic librarians, such as professional identity, critical reflection, digital capacity, collaborative relationships, and evidence-based practice. It argues that the stories captured in the succeeding chapters demonstrate the potential of this national framework to revitalize library teaching and learning on a global scale, following the inspiring lead of these Irish academic libraries." @default.
