Biomass gasification is among the few important aspects of bioenergy for producing heat, power, and biofuels for useful applications. Biomass downdraft gasification includes a sequence of operations namely drying, pyrolysis, oxidation, and reduction for syngas generation. The quality of syngas produced may be improved by optimizing biomass properties like moisture content, composition, and process parameters such as gasification temperature, biomass consumption, and equivalence ratio. This syngas may be converted into liquid fuels by various novel methods and chemical processes. Syngas can be converted into methanol by hydrogenation with copper, zinc, and chromium as catalyst. Methanol produced from biomass could be an alternative source for IC engines and fuel cell applications with reduced environmental impact." @default.
