- W2961217546 abstract "The slip of modern tractors can be adjusted by several measures, including using draft force and implement position control systems, additional ballast, low aspect ratio tyres, increased or very high flexion tyres and adjusting the inflation pressure of tyres. Any of these measures, or their combinations, unavoidably results in changes in tractor tyre deflection of the front and rear tyres which affects the lead of the front driving wheels of the tractor. This may result in changes in resistance to movement and fuel consumption. The aim of this research is to establish a mathematical method for calculating the inflation pressure combinations for the front and rear tyres that can generate an appropriate lead for the front driving wheels of a tractor. Furthermore, the effect of inflation pressure combinations on tractor slip and fuel consumption were investigated. The results suggest that inflation pressure combinations of the rear/front tyres can generate appropriate driving lead for the front wheels and improve the fuel consumption. In particular, inflation pressure combinations in rear and front tyres that generated about 2% lead for the front driving wheels reduced the hourly fuel consumption by 2.5–3.0%, and fuel consumption per hectare by 3.5–4.0% compared to the case where the front tyre inflation pressure was equal to that in the rear tyres." @default.
