- W296461188 abstract "In order to investigate the ecological conditions and possible mechanism of N2O-formation from nitrite, model experiments were carried out under varying conditions and in the presence of different inhibitors specific for cytochromes and aerobic energy conservation. With Fusarium solani strain 50 the release of N2O from nitrite (but not from nitrate) was recorded both under aerobic as well as completely anaerobic conditions. The process is inducible by nitrite. N2O was produced both at high and relatively low concentrations of sodium nitrite, but N2 could not be detected. NO or NH2OH as a single electron acceptor were reduced rapidly into N2O. The specific N2O-formation rate from NaNO2-sucrose-rninerals salt medium (pH 7.0, 30°C) under anaerobic conditions was 1.85 mg N2O g dry weight−1 h−1 with an apparent Km-value of 25 mM NO−-N · 1−1 at a biomass of 0.20 g dry weight · 1−1. From inhibitor studies, a transfer of electrons via ubisemiquinone and cytochrome b (or c) may be assumed. Rote none, the inhibitor of the NADH-dependent electron transfer, had no effect of N2O-production. Antimycin inhibited N2O-release, but did not affect respiration. A mechanism of N2O-production is proposed similar to aerobic denitrification observed with various bacteria." @default.
