- W2964728529 abstract "Reduction of car body weight and improvement of safety standard are two major concerns in automotive industry in order to uphold the global warming and sustainability issues. Lighweight materials having high specific strength such as high strength steel (HSS) and ultra-high strength steel (UHSS) sheets used for the body-in-white parts, remarkably decrease the overall cars body weight resulting in less combustion of fuel. After stamping, the formed parts usually required subsequent processing such as trimming to remove the scrap portion. In trimming of ultra-high strength steel sheets, commonly happen in trimming of parts having curved shapes, the complexity of the shape and the large trimming load generate edge fracture and dimensional defect which deteriorates the quality and lead to part rejection. This study intends to investigate the separation behaviour of the scrap during trimming to observe the main affected region for occurring of fracture and crack. The JSC580YN high strength and JSC780YN, JSC980YN, JSC1180YN ultra-high strength steel sheets type were trimmed under a control trimming parameters using a flat trimming punch. The specimens of these different steel types were bent to form curved shape and the radius of the curved zone were changed. The crack and fracture were largest for JSC980YN and JSC1180YN and result in chipping at the curved and inclined zones of the steel sheets. Smaller radius of the curved zone was found resulting in large fracture and crack which lead to chipping of curved and inclined zones." @default.
