- W2967876947 abstract "Theoutline of this PhD thesis is concerned with the study ofmorphologic and electronic characteristics of cerium dioxide (111)thin films on a ruthenium (0001) crystal as a model system forheterogenous catalysis. The focus in this thesis is on oxygenvacancies in the O-Ce-O oxide layers, which control the catalyticactivity of the model system and are introduced by annealing thefilm at highly reducing conditions. Under the same focus is thedistribution of the copper nano-particles on the surface of theoxide films. Copper rather prefers to donate charges to Ce ions inthe film that consequently transform from Ce^4+ to Ce^3+. Clearevidence for this comes from XPS investigations. The impact of thecopper ad-particles on the degree of reduction is strong enough todrive the highest degree of reduction from former 17% to over 50%in the near surface regime. This means the amount of Ce^3+ ions inthe film is comparable to that of the bixbyite stoichiometry ofceria (Ce_2O_3). %%%%ImRahmen dieser Doktorarbeit werden die morphologischen undelektronischen Eigenschaften von dunnen Ceroxidschichten (CeO_2)auf einem (0001) Rutheniumeinkristall als Modellsystem fur dieheterogene Katalyse untersucht. Im Fokus stehenSauerstofffehlstellen in der O-Ce-O Oxidfilmstruktur, welchemasgeblich fur die katalytische Aktivitat des Modellsystems sind.Im selben Fokus steht die Verteilung der Kupfernanopartikel auf derOberlache. Kupfer bevorzugt es eher Elektronen an die Oxidschichtabzugeben, was als Konsequenz eine Reduktion der Ce ionen von einemCe^4+ zu einem Ce^3+ Ladungszustand mit sich bringt. Ein klarerHinweis dafur lasst sich mittels XPS finden. Der Einfluss ist starkgenug, um hochsten Reduktionsgrad der Filme, von 17% auf uber 50%zu treiben. Dieser Reduktionsgrad ergibt eine Anzahl an Ce^3+ionen, welche vergleichbar mit der aus der Bixbyitestoichiometrie(Ce_2O_3) ist." @default.
