- W2969013265 abstract "Lab-in-a-Fiber (LIF), a counterpart of Lab-on-a-chip, however, deployed within the cylindrical optical fiber geometry, emerges as a promising approach into the development of functional and robust sensing and actuating devices with great potential for penetrating into the vertical and horizontal markets of Health, Food, Energy Safety and Security, and Environment. Lab-in-a-Fiber exploits the unique guiding and inherent fluidic characteristics of microstructured optical fibers for achieving highly integrated, and largely diverse sensing and actuating operations, in a platform of typical diameter of some tens of micrometers. In this review, basic principles and potential benefits of the Lab-in-a-fiber approach will be given, together with older, current and emerging device and technology paradigms implemented, while summarizing technological hurdles, prospects and challenges." @default.
