• W2969257673 abstract "Al-4Mg-0.2Zr alloy samples were rolled at ambient (AT) and cryogenic (CT) temperatures with two distinct thickness reductions and the results were evaluated with regard to the mechanical strength, x-ray diffraction (XRD), microstructural characterization and texture. The strength and hardness were found to be increased after a 50% rolling reduction at both temperatures. Conversely, a subsequent reduction to 75% resulted in the decrement of mechanical properties and indicated the onset of work softening. XRD studies confirmed the reduction of dislocation density at higher rolling reductions. The structural evolution analysis by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) pointed out the occurrence of work softening with the annihilation of dislocation cores and also the polygonization of cell structures into fine sub-grains by higher rolling reductions at both the temperatures. Electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) analysis confirmed that the grain refinement was significantly high at lower reductions and also revealed that the formation of the subgrain structures was high when rolled at CT at higher reductions. Hence, it was evident that both hardening and softening were attained in successive strain stages at both the temperatures. In terms of strength, the alloy rolled at CT was found dominant over its counterpart rolled at AT on both the reduction levels. Finally, cryo-rolling prevailed the capability of sustaining the high strain induced softening to some extent with better dislocation stability and enhanced mechanical properties over the ambient temperature rolling." @default.
