- W2969894417 abstract "Aim: The aim of this study is to compare the microbiological colonization on different intraoral suturematerials used in patients, undergone oral surgery.Material and Methods: Suture materials wereapplied to 60 patients during dentoalveolar surgicalinterventions. Patients were randomly divided into 4groups of 15. Four different types of suture materialswere introduced into the patients after surgicalremoval of their impacted lower third molars. In thepostoperative seventh day, suture materials wereremoved. After these sutures were washed in sterilesaline solution containing tubes, we performed variousmicrobiological isolation and differentiation techniques.Results: In microbiological examination, 13 aerobicspecies, 7 anaerobic species, 1 yeast species, and 1mold species were isolated from the non-absorbablesuture materials. Eight aerobic strains, 9 anaerobicstrains, and additionally, 1 yeast and 2 mold strainswere isolated from the absorbable suture materials.Conclusion: In light of the data obtained, we believethat polyglycolic acid based suture materials might bepreferred in oral surgery. However, this choice shouldbe made by considering the other features of thesuture materials. And also, since the colonization ofpathogenic microorganisms could turn the sutures intoa potential oral pathogen reservoir, sutures should beremoved as soon as possible." @default.
