• W2970274097 abstract "Abstract Objective To evaluate the function of delay discounting, impulsiveness, and behavioral inhibition in adults with type 2 diabetes (DM2) in Mexico. Participants and Method Twenty-two adults (14 with DM2 and 8 healthy controls) living in Tijuana (Mexico) participated in the study (Age: M = 49.3, SD = 7.27; 63.3% female; Monthly Income: M = 352.2, DE = 202.3). DM2 adults were divided in two groups: one with secondary medical conditions (DM2+) and one without secondary medical conditions (DM2-). No differences were found regarding education (Chi-Sqr = 4.3, p = .22) or monthly income (Chi-sqr = 2.32, p = .31). Each participant completed the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11; Barratt, 1985), the Hayling Test, and a delay discounting task on the procedure of adjusting the immediate amount (AIA) over two hypothetical quantities of money. Results Significant differences were found in cognitive impulsivity evaluated through the BIS-11 between the three groups (KW = 6.21, p = .04). No differences were found regarding the k-value between the three groups (Chi-sqr = 1.5, p = .47), nor in Area Under the Curve (Chi-sqr = .65, p = .72) nor for the value of s (Chi-Sqr = .81, p = .66) in the amount of 4 thousand pesos. No significant differences were found in the Hayling Test - either in the score (Z = 1.74, p = .08) or in the reaction times (z = 0.81, p = .41). Conclusions The data show that there are no differences in delay discounting or inhibition between groups. The only difference is in cognitive impulsivity that has been referred as a personological characteristic. However, in prior studies, there is evidence that hyperbolic function in intertemporal tasks among adults with and without diabetes shows differences in their calculated parameters, as well as in inhibition tasks. It is recommended to increase the sample size and consider cross-cultural aspects since the sample of the study belongs to a vulnerable population in the border region. References Barratt, E. S.
