- W2972017492 abstract "2013 Curriculum enacted in Indonesia has put English as an extra-curricularactivity in primary school, no longer a content subject. An irony then comes intothe debate, as most English teaching practitioners consider that teaching Englishas a foreign language should be initiated since young ages. The long process ofelevating English proficiency since young ages should now be put behind. Notbecoming a content subject anymore, it means that there is no standard of Englishteaching to achieve. These issues seek for the solutions. One of the proposedsolutions is best equipping home-room teachers from all grades in designingEnglish extra-curricular activities, with the touch of local wisdom so as to make itmore meaningful. It is as a support to the implementation of thematic teachingand character building. As the concept of teaching English for primary schoolstudents is to give them experience in using the language, the teacher can optsinging as one of the activities in class. Translating the Indonesian children songsuggested by the weekly sub theme contributes the students’ understandingtowards the lesson. These could be achieved by conducting home-room Englishteachers training of how to translate the songs and make them possible to be usedin class." @default.
