This paper presents a single planetary gear dual-mode (input- and output-split) hybrid powertrain. Clutches are substituted for a synchronizer to achieve mode switching. To filter six possible topology schemes, a screening method based on kinematics and theoretical efficiency analysis is utilized. Subsequently, a backward model is established by modeling each powertrain component and designing an appropriate control strategy. Finally, a backward simulation method is utilized to select the optimal topologies. To evaluate the performance of the proposed powertrains, two typical power-split powertrains, THS-P610 and Volt-II, are compared with the optimized powertrains. The comparison results show that the proposed powertrains, having a simpler structure than Volt-II, improve the acceleration and fuel economy performances compared with THS-P610 and Volt-II." @default.
